United Assessment FAQs

Where should parents wait during the assessment?
Parents should wait away from the fields.  Parents can be a distraction to the assessment sessions.  The players may already be a little nervous.  We know you want to be there for your child, but we ask that you give them an opportunity to focus entirely on the coaches and other players.

Does my child need to attend all assessment days?
Although it is not required, it is recommended that players attend all assessment days.  This will give players a chance to really shine!  The assessors will be able to see how players perform in different conditions, so the more time we have with them, the better.

Will everyone be chosen for a competitive team?
Each team will have a roster of 14-18 players. Some age divisions may have more than one team, but teams are formed based on the availability of players with the right level of skills and qualified coaches.  Unfortunately, there will not be enough roster spots for everyone.  But ALL players are welcome to register for the recreational league.

Can my child play up?
GYSA United teams follow the "birth year" format, in accordance with the US Soccer Youth Player Initiatives. Players will be allowed to "play up" with approval of the GYSA Directors of Coaching and Player Development.   Players may not “play up” across developmental format under any circumstances (ie- 2008 and 2009 are 9v9 format and will not be allowed to play up to 2007 which will be 11v11 in 2019-2020 season..

Rosters shall be filled through GYSA United program assessments and the GYSA recreational program.
