Coaching Bio:
Thom Intrieri is a former professional soccer player with extensive coaching experience and demonstrated success at both youth and college levels.  Having grown up on Long Island, New York, Thom had the opportunity to train with some of the best players and coaches from the New York metropolitan area at the time.  His understanding and development within the game was a result of his exposure to several coaches with national and international experience from Europe.

As a player, Thom played for the Huntington Boys Club, while also taking part in the L.I. Select Olympic Development Program (ODP).  His experience in that arena motivated him to one day play at the collegiate and professional levels.  Thom played Division I soccer for Hofstra University for four years (1987-1990), and was the team captain for his Junior and Senior seasons.  He was an All-Conference selection as a Defender in those two seasons, after having played as a Striker for several years.  He then transitioned to play for a Semi-pro team (Glen Cove FC) which achieved much success in the region, leading to the development of the Glen Cove XARA professional team.  There he played in the NEPSL (Northeastern Professional Soccer League) from 1991-1993.  As a result of his growth, Thom earned a spot on the Long Island Rough Riders professional team (A-League) in 1993, and played with the Rough Riders until his decision to move to Arizona in 1995.

As a coach, Thom learned how to work with youth of all ages, as he was mentored by the former coaches of Columbia University (Dieter Ficken) and Fordham University (Frank Schnur).  He then developed throughout college, working with youth in the summers, and earning his LIJSL "A" coaching license.  He trained several youth teams, both boys and girls, over the next several years, and became an assistant coach for the U-16 ODP boys team in 1991.  For the next three years, Thom worked with the best regional coaches in developing the talented and motivated youth of Long Island.  In 1992, Thom was hired on to coach at the collegiate level for the New York Institute of Technology (Division II program), and grew as a coach, and player during that time.

Thom moved to Arizona in the summer of 1995, and has been working for the Mesa Police Department ever since.  He and his wife, Rochelle, have three children and they reside in Gilbert, AZ.  Thom was elected to the position of president of GYSA in 2009, and is committed as ever to make the league's focus of developing the youth of our community for success.  GYSA creates a healthy, positive, and fun environment where the talented youth of G.Y.S.A. can grow into positive examples for society, by living their lives in a positive way, and influencing others through their positive experiences.
